Welcome to the web site for Ritter Family Berkshires. My dad Richard and I have been raising purebred Berkshires for over 20 years. Our herd, Revolution Farms, has focused on sow productivity, growth, carcass, and meat quality traits. Our herd has relied heavily on performance testing by unbiased third parties. Through these tests, we have earned three Super Sire Awards at the National Barrow Show Progeny Test (2006, 2007, and 2008). Also, we produced the #1 and #2 Berkshire meat quality sires at the NBS Progeny Tests in 2004 and 2007, respectively, to learn more vist our Meat Quality page. If you are interested in Berkshires that excel in production and meat quality traits you can contact Richard by phone at 815-796-4518.

Last year my wife Megan, our son Jackson, and I saw an opportunity to produce Berkshire show pigs, so we started Ritter Family Berkshires. Our goal is to produce purebred Berkshires that can compete in the show ring at the state and national level. Our herd is comprised of 6 sows that represent some of the top herds and blood lines in the country. The summer of 2009 was our first show season, and it was a memorable one! We exhibited two gilts and a boar at the Iowa State Fair. We walked away with 3 class winners and the Reserve Champion boar. Please see our Winners Page for more details.

We are extremely excited about our August and September pigs. This is the first crop out of our new herd sire, BTC8 Classic 34-2.  His pigs are very impressive, and we are optimistic about their future. We invite you to the farm to view these pigs. If you are unable to make the trip to central Iowa, videos are available on our Show Prospects Page.

Thank you for your interest in our breeding program, and thank you for visiting our website. We look forward to visiting with you about your Berkshire needs.
